Jan S. Krogh's Geosite: Morokulien

Morokulien is the name of the border area between Magnor in Norway and Eda in Sweden. On 16 August 1914 an 18 metres tall peace monument made from granite was presented to a huge crowd of people from both countries commemorating 100 years peace between the two countries. Since then the two peace organisations, Svenska Freds- och Skiljedomsföreningen of Sweden and Norges Fredslag of Norway run Morokulien for many years. In 2005 the local municipalities, Eidskog (NO) and Eda (SE) are taking over the ownership of Morokulien.

The picture is taken on the border towards southeast. Straight forward is the Peace flag and behind the information centre. To the right is the amateur radio station with both Norwegian callsign of LG5LG and Swedish callsign of SJ9WJ.

As the photo clearly shows the amateur radio station is located on Norwegian side of the border making it the only radio station on Norwegian soil operating with a Swedish callsign. It is about 8 metres from the house's wall to the boundary.
