Jan S. Krogh's Geosite: Latvia - Lithuania Boundary Points LTLV-0628 (Pirtnieki, LV)

The boundary point is located at Lake Vadakste, north of the Lithuanian city of Akmene.

Position: 56° 21' 59"N  22° 47' 14"E.

The lake is only 200 m wide at this point. Lithuania is on the other side of the lake.

No LT-0628 in sight.  Maybe hidden by the forrest.

Lake Vadakste is the longest Latvian-Lithuanian border lake – about 3.3 km. LT-0628 and LT0628 are not situated straight towards each other. The boundary does not run along the midline, but via seven points which do not correspond to any of the border marker positions. At this lake there are only five Latvian border markers on the northern bank of the lake while there are more than twice as many – eleven – on the southern bank. 1)

Border marker LV-0628 is situated right at the main road next to the Pirtnieki village and easily visible. According to the map LT-0628 may be situated inside vegetation.

The points were visited in June 2012.
